Southwest Colorado Organic Farm Finalist for 2008 Gallo Gold Medal Awards
Ignacio, Colorado, March 31, 2008
Family-owned Fox Fire Farms, located in Ignacio Colorado, has been selected as a national finalist for the 2008 Gallo Family Vineyard Gold Medal Award. The Fox Fire Farms grass-fed, organic rack of lamb will be judged this week by a panel of culinary experts assembled by Gallo Vineyards.
“Our rack of lamb is not only a luxurious cut of meat, its flavor is unique to our farm,” says Brent Walter, Sales and Marketing Director at Fox Fire Farms. “Just like the flavor of wine is affected by the soil where the grapes are grown, the taste of meat is affected by the soil where the animal grazes. Feed an animal grains, meat by-products, hormones or chemicals and you’re also going to be able to taste that in the meat. The finest flavors come from animals raised on organic pastureland. We’re very excited about being selected as a finalist for the Gallo Gold Medal Award because we hope this honor will increase public awareness of the benefits and pleasures of artisanal meats.”
Gold Medal Award winners, who will be announced the first week of April, receive a $5,000.00 business development grant, an annual membership to the Chefs Collaborative, and the Gallo Family Vineyards seal of excellence to display on their winning products. In addition, the winners are flown to New York City for a celebratory luncheon with members of the Gallo family.
The Gallo Gold Medal Awards were created by the Gallo family in 2005 to recognize the country’s top artisanal food producers and promote the values of traditional methods of artisanal food production and sustainable agriculture. “The Gallo Family Vineyards Gold Medal Awards mean so much to our family and we’re extremely pleased to recognize another generation of exemplary artisans,” said Stephanie Gallo, Senior Director of Marketing, Gallo Family Vineyards. “As the country’s first family of wine, we truly understand the hard work and dedication that producing a quality artisanal product requires and we are privileged to honor those who continue to uphold the tradition.”
